Day 2: Addis Ababa – Menagesha Suba Forest National Park – Addis Ababa (25 km each way)
After breakfast we leave Addis Ababa towards the West to the beautiful Menagesha Suba Forest National Park (approx. 1.5 hours). Menagesha Forest is the nearest area of significant indigenous forest near Addis Ababa, only about 25 km west of the capital. The national park comprises 25km2 of juniper, African redwood and yellowwood trees, as well as Mount Wechecha, an extinct volcano that rises to 3’385m and is the highest mountain in the Addis Ababa area. Fit hikers may climb the summit. The forest can be explored along a network of stunning trails that extend from the national park headquarters. Wildlife includes the striking black and white Colobus monkey, the endemic Menelik bushbuck and the bold Anubis baboons, all of which are frequently seen by hikers. Menagesha is also a particularly important site for endemic forest birds. We return to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon. In the evening you are invited to a memorable farewell dinner in one of Addis Ababa’s traditional restaurants with cultural songs, dances and traditional food and drinks. You will then be transferred back to your reserved hotel.
